YORK REGISTRY OFFICE & THE OLD STAR, KILHAM, YORKSHIRE

This latest wedding of mine was in the stunning city of York for the beautifully intimate wedding of Hayley & Joe.

THE LOCATIONS… The Grand, York / Museum Gardens / York Registry Office / The Old Star, Kilham

From the very beginning, Hayley & Joe were seeking a totally laid-back day but certainly had a keen eye for the details; tailoring their day to their style and personality. This is why I love intimate civil ceremony weddings so much - they can be made completely unique to you as a couple with the freedom of not being restricted to one venue. Hayley & Joe took full advantage of this and chose to explore and have documented the bustling culture of York and the idyllic corners of the the city too by choosing three York locations to include in their day and a final location closer to home at a local pub in Kilham:

1. The Grand Hotel, York - Hayley & her bridal party stayed at the luxury 5 star hotel the night before, an iconic landmark, reflecting all of York's sophistication & depth of history. Hayley chose to walk with her bridal party from here to the Registry Office (which took around 10 minutes) through the hustle and bustle of the city. The route was specifically planned so that they would venture through the next location which served as an idyllic, peaceful escape to take some moments before arriving at the ceremony location.

2. York Museum Gardens - Located in the heart of York, the Museum gardens was the perfect place to gather on this sunny August day, surrounded by historical features and an array of stunning plants and flowers. This was also where the newlyweds wandered back to after their ceremony for some moments to themselves.

3. York Registry Office - A beautiful building just outside the city walls and close to the Minster, this was the perfect place for Hayley & Joe's intimate ceremony with their closest friends & family.

4. The Old Star, Kilham - A quaint, country pub in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds with a lovely garden in the back meant that Hayley & Joe could have their reception celebration outside, enjoying the summer evening with use of a large gazebo, picnic tables decorated beautifully by Hayley and they even created a DIY stage for a band to play as the evening went on. The perfect way to personalise your wedding day.

THE BIG DAY

The day began amongst the hustle and bustle of York where Hayley and her stunning bridal party walked from the iconic Grand Hotel, just oustide the famous city walls, to the Registry office whilst detouring through York Museum Gardens. It was a dream to document the journey from the hustle and bustle to an idyllic, peaceful escape that was the museum gardens; taking in some excited and nervous moments together before heading to the ceremony was just the perfect way to prepare for this city wedding on a summers day. Hayley looked absolutely incredible in a dress that I don’t think could have been more perfect for her.

Arriving at the Registry Office, the groomsmen were ready and waiting, Joe was nervous: anticipation in the air, helped by his groomsmen who were excited for their friends.

Guests were welcomed into the ceremony room. An emotional exchange of vows proceeded as well as a special young guest bravely reading the most heartwarming speech dedicated to his Aunt - I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room!
After they tied the knot, the newlyweds were welcomed warmly by their guests with a huge confetti throw and the party enjoyed some celebratory moments in the lovely garden followed by the mantlepiece shots before the newlyweds took a stroll to the Museum Gardens for some much-needed moments together. The guests jetted off in their cars to Kilham for the reception. Their romantic stroll through the idyllic gardens was a delight to document. This was followed by a warm welcome to their intimate reception at The Old Star, Kilham with fun and games, temporary tattoos, party sunglasses, guest signing in the form of self-portraits and an array of Tunnock’s Teacakes! A wonderful end to an unforgettable, unique day celebrating Hayley & Joe.
